Courses


Students can choose a course level based on their prior experience and education on the area of stage combat.

On all course levels, an emphasis is put on combining artistic value, technique and safety.

When in doubt of a suitable level for you, please contact us at nsfssummerworkshop@gmail.com, and we will help you to find your level. If applying for a level above beginner you will need to list your training.

 

BEGINNER

Classes: Unarmed combat, broadsword, single rapier, movement and storytelling.

The beginner course is an introductory level for the participant who has little or no previous experience in staged combat. The course ends in a showcase at Rakvere castle.

BASIC TEST

Classes: Unarmed combat, broadsword, single rapier.

This course is an expansion of the beginner level. The course is aimed at participants who have some previous training. The participant can choose to take the NSFS basic certification test at the end of the course.

INTERMEDIATE PREPARATORY 1

Classes: Sword and shield, rapier and dagger, quarterstaff.

The course focuses on two-handed weapons, which require more awareness and coordination from the performer. The course ends in a showcase, where the participants play selected scenes from the work in class for a live audience.

INTERMEDIATE TEST 1

Classes: Sword and shield, rapier and dagger, quarterstaff.

This course is an expansion of the intermediate prep. 1 level. The participant can choose to take the NSFS certification test at the end of the course.

INTERMEDIATE PREPARATORY 2

Classes: Theatrical martial arts (TMA), knife, smallsword.

The course focuses on weapons with smaller target areas and stylised movement, which requires more movement specificity and precision from the performer. The course ends in a showcase, where the participants play selected scenes from the work in class for a live audience.

INTERMEDIATE TEST 2

Classes: Theatrical martial arts (TMA), knife, smallsword.

This course is an expansion of the intermediate prep. 2 level. The participant can choose to take the NSFS certification test at the end of the course.

ADVANCED

The advanced level is a melting pot of the skills of the teachers teaching at the course. class proposed at the moment are, Fighting for film, found weapons, knife & tomahawk, spear, bullwhip, longsword, mediaeval weapons and more
