British fight director, actor, dancer, choreographer, singer and director, as well as co-founder of the Society of British Fight Directors, now known as the British Academy of Dramatic Combat.
Jonathan has worked a lot in Scandanavia and all over the world in both film, TV, theatre, ballet, opera, pantomime and radio. He is Stage Combat instructor at BOVTS and has taught at numerous workshops in America, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Estonia.
His favourite work to date includes: acting the leading role in Cyrano de Bergerac; being the Swordy left-hand of Clueless the Donkey in the film The Muppets Treasure Island and choreographing a multitude of school children for the epic battle between Mice and Soldiers for the Norwegian National Ballet’s The Nutcracker in Oslo, Christmas 2008.
Jonathan Howell has been teaching stage combat at Old Vic Theater School since 1988 and 2014 he became the head of the schools Dance and Movement.
He is also the author of the book “Stage Fighting: A Practical Guide”.
He was one of the three teachers who taught at the first NSFS summer workshop ever held in Estonia.
